Fall History Festival An annual festival with food, crafts, games, focusing on one era of history. Every family whose children are participating will be expected to bring a dish.
Chairman -The date of the festival will be determined by the steering committee before the school year begins, you will need to determine the era of the festival (ancient times, medieval times, roaring 20's etc. whatever you want) and find and reserve a park pavilion to hold it at. The park must have a covered pavilion, playground, and lots of picnic tables both in and outside the pavilion (Raymond Rimkus on Evers works great). You have a budget of $250 (subject to change, check with SC) to allot as needed for rental of pavilion, decorations and crafts. Food is provided by attendees. Have people RSVP to you counting adults and number and ages of children. RSVP's need to be finalized 2 weeks before the festival so craft supplies can be bought.
Crafts
Chairman - Find crafts that reflect the era chosen for the fest. One or two for older kids and one or two for younger. There is money in the budget to purchase supplies and kits (Oriental Trading has a lot of neat things). Once the RSVP's are in, determine how many you need fore each craft (determined by children's ages) and order them. Assign committee members to administer the crafts during the festival; we usually have tables set up around pavilion for this labeled with age groups for each craft.
Committee of 6
Decorations
Chairman - Research decorations that would reflect the era chosen to decorate the tables where the attendees will eat. Some of the budget can be allotted for this. Buy tablecloths (disposable) for all the tables, including the ones where food is served. If possible, try to put together a backdrop for the kids in costume to have their picture taken. (One year we did the Pilgrims and somebody made a Plymouth Rock.) This is not necessary, but the kids and parents love it.
Committee of 3
Food
Chairman - Research food from era chosen for the fest and determine which ones to have people bring. Gather your committee at least a month in advance to determine food selections and quantities based on RSVP numbers. Email or call people who will be attending and assign them food items to bring, giving them recipes, if necessary. There is money in the budget for you to buy and provide drinks and paper goods.
Committee of 3
Games
Chairman - Along with your committee, once you find out the era the History Fest will focus on, either research games from that era or come up with common games with a historical twist (example: "chariot" or "covered wagon" races using children's wagons...one or two in each wagon and one pulling for each team). You will need to come up with a rotation based on age groups which will be coordinated with the craft rotations.
